Locating schools in your area

You can find local schools by contacting your Local Education Authority (LEA) or using the search link below. Your LEA is part of Staffordshire County Council and is responsible for funding and supervising schools in your area. LEAs publish an 'information for parents' booklet on local schools, giving details of all the schools in its area.

Applying to schools

You can also Apply for School Admissions online through the Staffordshire Education authority website. Note: This service will only be available during the administration period for school admissions.

The admission authority for a school can be either the school itself or the LEA. If you're applying to a secondary school, all applications are made through the LEA on its 'common application form'. The LEA co-ordinates the administration process for dealing with applications for all schools in its area.

If you're applying for a primary school then the LEA may not be fully co-ordinating the administration process until 2006 entry. Your LEA will advise you about how to apply for primary school places for September 2005. They can also advise on:
  • when you should apply – this is very important because late applications might not be considered until after those received on time, so they are often not successful
  • who is given priority if a school is full or oversubscribed – this can depend on many factors and may well vary from one school to another
  • the number of children admitted to the school last year compared with the number of applications – this gives you an idea of how easy or difficult it might be to get a place at the school
Remember, even though you have a right to state your preferred school, the admission authority is not required to give you a place if more applications are received than there are places available. Every school has an admissions limit for the number of children that will be offered places. Once that number of places have been taken, the year group is full.
