South Staffordshire Council have been working with various partners this year to develop their brand new 3G synthetic pitches.  The facility at Penkridge  Leisure Centre opened in July and is proving a real success with its users.

Penkridge Leisure Centre, together with Wolgarston High School, Penkridge Juniors FC, Stafford Rangers Juniors FC and Staffordshire County Council, together received £343,000 from the Football Foundation which has been invested into the cost of the new synthetic football pitches and floodlights which are located  at Penkridge Leisure Centre with the adjoining Wolgarston High School.

Two local football clubs will benefit from having a state of the art home venue and thanks to a grant of £150,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund, the school changing rooms will also be upgraded in order to accommodate a multitude of local sports clubs and teams that currently use the leisure centre including those that travel to use the facilities from the surrounding Black Country.

Additionally Codsall Leisure Centre's new 3G pitch also opened for use this week. Codsall's new pitch has been developed in conjunction with Codsall Community High School, Staffordfshire County Council, Jaguar Land Rover, Sport England and Interserve.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I am delighted to see this tremendous investment in new facilities which will be an asset for the local community for many years to come.  The project group has all worked tirelessly in partnership with Staffordshire FA to reach this stage and deserve great credit for their efforts.
