Safer Food Better Business

All food businesses are required to have written systems in order to show how they make sure the food they provide is safe to eat. Businesses can produce their own systems based on HACCP principles or use a "Safer Food Better Business" information pack.

The level of documentation required will depend on the nature and size of your business. For small, independent businesses the Food Standards Agency has produced guidance called “Safer Food Better Business” (SFBB) aimed at helping smaller food businesses to put in place food safety management procedures and comply with food hygiene regulations.

Packs are available for a range of businesses such as Caterers; Retailers; Different Cuisines and Languages; Childminders and for Small Residential Homes

You can order a full pack and diary sheets free of charge directly from the Food Standards Agency by calling FSA Publications:

Tel: 0845 606 0667

Email: foodstandards@ecgroup.co.uk

You can download the full pack and diary sheets from the Food Standards Agency website: Safer food, better business.

The pack has been developed by the Food Standards Agency, working with catering businesses, to be practical and easy to use. Using this will help you to:

  • Comply with food hygiene regulations
  • Show what you do to make food safely
  • Train staff
  • Protect your businesses reputation
  • Improve your business, such as by wasting less food.
