Wild About Perton was set up in 2006, by a group of Perton residents interested in the local environment, landscape and wildlife and is constituted as a community organisation without charitable status.  Since 2006 it has organised and contributed to various events and activities including a monthly wildlife walk, an annual Spring Festival, a wildlife garden, interpretation boards, construction and installation of bird, bat & bee boxes and a wildlife pond suitable for safe pond dipping, all on a voluntary collaborative basis.  The group has also taken an active interest in the future of the privately owned local woodland known as Smith’s Rough.  Policies, plans and activities are agreed collectively by a Management Committee.

Spring Festival, Saturday 12 April

Wild About Perton’s Spring Festival is a successful wildlife and environmental event which our group has organised in conjunction with Perton Library and South Staffs Council for the past 7 years, with attendance figures topping over 1400 people in the last 2 years.

The Festival brings together a broad range of organisations for a free festival to inform and engage local people and particularly young people in their local environment, about wildlife and wild places.  Displays and activities take place within Perton Library and a recent and growing development has been the use of the nearby open space.  In 2014 collaborative events are planned with local schools.

Wild About Perton GroupAll events begin at "Perton Library" unless otherwise stated.

Health and Safety is taken seriously with each walk risk assessed but it is the responsibility of all participants to take reasonable care of themselves and others.  Some walks may involve muddy paths, fields, ditches, stiles etc and so may not be suitable for all however we take all reasonable steps to include people who are less mobile.  Outdoor clothing, including strong footwear suitable for the time of year and activity is strongly recommended.  Please do not bring dogs on our walks as they can interfere with wildlife and the enjoyment of others. If you are unsure of any aspect of an event, then please contact the group via the links below.
