The Friends of Bilbrook are a voluntary group formed in October 2011.  They consist of like-minded individuals who want to improve the environment and facilities of Bilbrook to promote the area as a desirable place to live, work and visit.  They have a formal constitution and a permanent committee of 7 members.

Friends of BilbrookSo far they have had five community litter picks and held three tree planting days. The first in February 2012 involved the local Primary and Middle schools, Playgroups, Nurseries, local residents and the Forest of Mercia during which 840 trees donated by the Woodland Trust were planted to create a Jubilee Wood in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.  The Friends have also planted over 600 bulbs around Bilbrook to enhance the village in springtime, and for a summer display they have planted wildflowers on Watery Lane roundabout.

Pupils from the Middle School had a competition to design the group logo and their website is sponsored by the Woodman Inn.

The Friends have recently secured £46,057 of funding from the Biffa Award, South Staffordshire Council's Community Budget and South Staffordshire Housing Association.  This has been used to renovate a dilapidated basketball court to create a Multi Use Games Area which opened in Summer 2014.

The Friends hold regular fundraising events such as quizzes, skittles and barn dance evenings.  The Friends work closely with both Bilbrook Parish Council and South Staffordshire Council.

Future ideas include working with Bilbrook Scouts to make nesting boxes to be sited along the Moat Brook.

There will be community litter picks, tree planting days and further social events arranged throughout the coming year.  Please check their website below for further details.

As you can see the Friends of Bilbrook have bags of enthusiasm and determination to make the village a better place to live for young and old alike!
