Access to benefits and financial advice for those in
need to be made easier.
Staffordshire local district and borough
councils have taken over the delivery of the Welfare Benefits,
Fairer Charging and Financial Assessment Services from the county
Therefore, from 1st December 2014 the Welfare benefits
Service for social care will join forces with South Staffordshire
Council Revenues and Benefits Team to deliver a local joined
up service. South Staffordshire Council will also be delivering
this service for East Staffs area.
Benefits of the new joined up
This new way of working has been tried and
tested during an early implementer pilot with three districts
between November 2012 and October 2013 and means that residents
will have one single point of access, making it easier and quicker
for them to get the support they need.
There are also various other benefits that we
believe will be delivered by having one countywide commissioned
service. They include:
- People will be able to access a more localised and co-ordinated
financial advice and assessment service together in one place at
their district offices or over the phone.
- People only having to contact one organisation for benefits
- A more consistent and equitable service, regardless of where
you live in Staffordshire
- Smarter working between public sector partners to reduce
duplication and improve costs
- Better value for money for taxpayers in
This new service will maximise the take up of benefits for people
who are entitled to them, helping also to support our residents to
remain as independent as possible.
They will also be able to provide help to
those referred by their social worker much quicker; therefore
completing any necessary home visits a lot sooner.
