Street naming and numbering

street signIt is essential that emergency services and delivery services, as well as the public in general, can find properties easily and quickly. A logical road naming and numbering system is essential and this is one of the functions that we carry out.

On new developments we allocate road names after consultation with Councillors and the Parish Council and to ensure there is no duplication of addresses we consult the Post Office. House numbers are then allocated to the individual properties (we do not allocate No 13)

Some house owners also like to have a house name as part of their address. We keep records of these and it is important that we are told of any changes so that we can update or records and notify all of the statutory and emergency services.

Please note that we do not allocate or maintain postcodes. For queries about postcodes, please contact the Post Office.
