The Diversity Reference Group regularly meet to check and sign off Equality Impact Assessments (EQIA) and checking the legality of Council decisions in relation to the impact on people with certain characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010.

 

The process allows us to look at evidence and consult as to whether the service or policy is discriminatory (actual or perceived to be) against people with protected characteristics.

 

The benefit of the Equality Impact Assessments is not simply achieving legal compliance but a means to best practice and to delivering more effective, appropriate and inclusive policies and practices.  A rolling programme of monitoring EQIA has been developed and all approved assessments are published on the Council website.
