South Staffordshire Chief Exec steps down after 6 years

The chief executive of South Staffordshire Council is stepping down from the role after 6 years.

Chief Executive Steve Winterflood will leave the post in November but will be replaced by the current

Deputy Chief Executive Dave Heywood, who was appointed last night at a council meeting by

unanimous vote.

Steve said: “It has been a huge privilege to be chief executive of the council for last 6 years and

although it has been extremely difficult to decision to leave, it seems the right time to embark on a

new chapter.

“I would like to thank both the staff and members not only for their personal support during my time

at the council, but for their tireless hard work, dedication and commitment to help improve the lives

and opportunities for South Staffs residents.”

Leader of South Staffordshire Council Brian Edwards paid tribute to Steve for his leadership at the

helm of the council.

He said:  “Steve has worked tirelessly to really make a difference to the lives of residents in South

Staffordshire.

“It will be business as usual until November, when we will put measures in place for a smooth

transition between Steve’s departure and the new chief executive taking up the role.

“I wish Steve all the best in his future endeavours, and I’m sure I echo the thoughts of many other

local residents when I thank him for all of his work in our district.”

The current deputy chief executive, Dave Heywood, has been appointed to take over the helm of the

council as the new Chief Executive.

Dave said:  “I’m absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to become the next Chief Executive

of South Staffordshire Council and build on the many strengths the council already has.

“Local Government continues to face a number challenges, but with them comes opportunities too

and we are well placed as a council to maximise them. We have strong plans in place and my priority

will be to give a level of stability and continuity across the organisation so we can continue to drive our

plans forward.”
